General Etiquette

Conduct of Competitors

  • Competitors must bow to the Jury Table and their opponents before and after each bout.
  • Maintaining the spirit of "Indomitable Spirit" and "Courtesy" is mandatory at all times.
  • Excessive celebration or disrespectful gestures are grounds for immediate disqualification.

Coaching Rules

  • Only one designated coach is allowed at the ringside per competitor.
  • Coaches must remain seated during the active round.
  • Interference with officials' decisions is strictly prohibited.

Sparring (Matsogi)

Scoring System

  • 1 Point Hand attack to Mid/High level
  • 1 Points Foot attack to Mid level
  • 2 Points Foot attack to High level
  • 2 Points Jumping/Flying kick to Mid level
  • 3 Points Jumping/Flying kick to High level
  • 2 Points 180° kick to Mid level
  • 3 Points 180° kick to High level
  • 3 Points Jumping/Flying 180° kick to Mid level
  • 4 Points Jumping/Flying 180° kick to High level
  • 4 Points Jumping/Flying 360° kick to Mid level
  • 5 Points Jumping/Flying 360° kick to High level

Prohibited Techniques

  • Attacks to the back or below the belt line.
  • Use of elbows, knees, or head for striking.
  • Excessive contact or uncontrolled techniques.
  • Attacking a fallen opponent.

Safety Note

Continuous semi-contact rules apply. Points are awarded only when the technique is performed with correct balance, posture, and precise distance control.

Technical Content

Precision of movement, correct tool usage, and adherence to the sine-wave motion.

Dynamic acceleration, breath control, and the "snap" at the moment of impact.

Continuous flow, timing, and eye contact (Gazul) throughout the pattern.

Special Technique

Special technique demonstrations showcase the breaking power and precision of Taekwon-Do. Competitors perform board breaks or power demonstrations at various heights and angles.

Judging Criteria

  • Degree of difficulty of the technique
  • Height and distance achieved
  • Accuracy of target impact
  • Technical form and landing

Safety Requirements

  • Proper landing mats must be in place
  • Board holders must be trained officials
  • Medical personnel must be present
  • Competitors may attempt up to 3 times

Uniform Requirements

The Dobok

  • Official UTAK/ITF style white dobok only.
  • Black Belt ranks must have black trim on the bottom of the jacket.
  • UTAK emblem must be fixed on the left chest.

Protective Equipment

  • Hand and feet protectors (Red or Blue per corner).
  • Head guard and mouth guard are mandatory.
  • Groin guard must be worn inside the dobok.
